UNIVERSITY
OF IDAHO (UI) SWEET AVENUE
PHASE I, II, & III ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT & REMEDIATION,
MOSCOW, ID
TerraGraphics
was hired by the University of Idaho (UI) to conduct a hazardous waste site
investigation on 11 acres of land prior to purchase. The site contained hazards
from pesticide and petroleum spills. The unique project required TerraGraphics’
coordination of efforts among the Governor's office, DEQ, and the current and
former property owners and tenants.
TerraGraphics'
role also included determining 1) the degree, type, and extent of contamination,
2) the potential threat to human health and/or the environment, and 3) remedial
actions required. An extensive investigation included collection of over 200
soil, surface water, and groundwater samples. A substantial risk assessment
and a comprehensive regulatory review were performed to identify human health
risks and potential liability issues.
TerraGraphics
negotiated final remediation requirements with the tenants on behalf of the
UI, and provided oversight and monitoring during remedial activities. TerraGraphics
then oversaw interim streambank stabilization and final stream restoration efforts
as the site was transformed into a beautiful greenbelt for the UI.
